How to add 'another email address you own' using Gmail using App Password
Private domain email can be used with Gmail simply by using an app password. This will also work for email forwarding. If you already have 2-factor authorization enabled proceed directly to Step 2.
Step 1 - First, you must have 2 factor authentication enabled on your gmail account in order for this workaround to work. If you choose not to enable 2 factor authentication on your Google account, this work around will not function properly for you. 2 factor is required because you must use an app password for this work around.
On the left navigation panel, choose Security.
On the "Signing in to Google" panel, choose App Passwords. If you don’t see this option:
- Visit http://www.google.com/landing/2step
- Click on the get started button and follow other prompt to complete for two step authentication.
- Get an app password by following these instructions:-
On the left navigation panel, choose Security.
On the "Signing in to Google" panel, choose App Passwords. If you don’t see this option:
- 2-Step Verification is not set up for your account.
- 2-Step Verification is set up for security keys only.
- Your account is through work, school, or other organization.
- You’ve turned on Advanced Protection for your account.
- Choose Select device and choose the device you’re using.
- Choose Generate.
- Follow the instructions to enter the App Password. The App Password is the 16-character code in the yellow bar on your device.
- Choose Done.
- Most of the time, you’ll only have to enter an App Password once per app or device, so don’t worry about memorizing it.
- Take note of the app password by copying it because you’ll be making use of it in the last steps below.
Step 3
- Log in to your Gmail account
- Locate & click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the page and select Settings
- Navigate to the Accounts and Import
- Locate Send mail as: and click on Add another email address you own
- From the pop-up windows, enter your name and your new domain email address
- Do not deselect Treat as an Alias. Next Step
Step 4
- On the next popup remove the values in there and enter Google’s SMTP server values as seen in the image below
- SMTP server = smtp.gmail.com
- Username= your gmail address
- Password= your app password created in step 2 above
- This will work for incorporating Gmail with both Namesilo and Namecheap, forwarding email also included. It should work for any private domain email.
A verification will be sent to your gmail address with a CODE to verify or a LINK to verify.
Once verified simply compose a new email in your Gmail account and select your private email address as the sender.
Whenever you change your Gmail Password you will need to generate a new app password and repeat the steps.

Set up Profile Picture in Gmail from Another Address you Already Own
Your Google account picture is shown in emails sent from the @gmail.com domain and not from your own domain. So, if you have an email address in Gmail under Accounts under the ‘Sent email as:’ field, your picture won’t be shown.
Luckily, there is a way around this.
First, you need to go https://myaccount.google.com/ and select / Manage / Personal Info / Contact Info / Alternate Emails /Manage Alternate Emails. Write down your new alternate emails and verify them. Your profile picture will now be sent with these emails.

Set up Profile Picture in Gmail using an address made with App Passwords and a Forwarding Service from your Private Domain.
However, if you are using a domain name email address made with an App Password there is one extra step.
An alternate email address cannot be verified if it is sent to the App Password gmail account that you want the profile picture for. You must change the forward address to a different one in your domain Redirect Email. When the alternate emails have been verified reset the forward address to the one with the profile pic made using an App Password. |
